Two Boys, One Room

A two-year-old and a five-year-old go to bed at different times, wake at different times, and want completely different things on their walls. The room has to do all of it without turning into two half-rooms.

The principle

Shared, not split. One palette and one rug across the whole room; personal territory happens above each bed, where each of them controls the wall. Dividing the floor makes a small room feel smaller.
